An investigative project conducted with Alana James (Northumbria University) and Hong Kong based NGO, Redress to understand the fashion educator experience of teaching sustainability. Following the collection and analysis of data gathered from educators in Hong Kong, China, UK and Australia, the project will conclude with a suite of resources to support educators develop innovative curriculum.

Fashioning Now
(2009-10)
The ‘Fashioning Now’ project explored the theoretical and practical issues concerned with fashion sustainability and the problem of textile waste, which is created during the manufacture and use of fashion clothing. The main project activity centred on an exhibition, staged in Sydney and Perth, which highlighted the ways textile waste could be avoided and reduced. This was supported with a public program of activities over eighteen months, including a symposium and website. A publication emerged from the body of work, ‘Shaping Sustainable Fashion’ (Gwilt & Rissanen 2011)
