Fashion Technology: The Ripcurl Project

(2008)

Developed between Professor Marie O’Mahony, Michael Ray (Global Chairman of Wetsuits at Ripcurl), and myself, the Ripcurl project explored the re-use of pre- and post consumer textile waste material in the manufacture of new innovative products. The design brief focused on creating wearable jackets using off-cuts and irregular sized pieces of neoprene fabric. Using creative textile techniques to add value to the original neoprene material, the students also resolved how to join smaller pieces of fabric together to develop a garment form. The final garments and textile samplers were exhibited during the Australian Rosemount Fashion Week in Sydney 2009.
